Tweed gets its look from weaving several yarn colors together, not from printing a design onto finished cloth. On a sofa cover that distinction is worth money, because the pattern runs through the fabric and cannot wear away from the middle of the seat where everyone sits and every pet stands. Two years in, the busy end of the cover still matches the quiet end.

Underneath the texture it is chenille, a fabric that copes with claws, fur and the general scuffing of daily traffic while keeping a soft surface for the animals doing the scuffing. It puts a real layer between the sofa and everything that lands on it, which keeps scratches and stains off the upholstery rather than letting them accumulate where they cannot be washed out.

The range runs to eight sizes plus a 17.7 inch cushion cover, from a 27.6 inch square for one seat up to 43.3 by 70.9 inches for a deep sofa. The two 43.3 inch widths are the ones to look at if your seat depth has defeated narrower covers in the past. An anti-slip backing keeps it in position, and cleaning means pulling it off and running it through the washing machine, then putting it back.
