Sherpa fleece is a thick, curly pile rather than a flat woven cloth, and thickness is what buys a sofa cover a long life. Friction is spread across a deep layer of fibre instead of concentrating on a thin surface, so the spot where someone sits every night does not polish flat and shine the way thinner covers do after a few months. Heavy daily use is exactly the condition this fabric is built for.

In a cold house that depth does something else useful: it holds warmth, so the cover becomes the spot the dog or cat chooses on its own. That is worth encouraging, because a pet that settles on the cover is a pet not settling on the upholstery.
