The checkerboard is woven in blocks rather than printed on the surface, so the two-tone squares keep their edges through repeated washing instead of blurring or fading unevenly where the seat gets the most use. It also means the pattern exists in the pile itself, giving the plush a subtle change of direction from square to square that catches light differently across the panel.
